She scrubs and scrubs at night,
underneath the eyes,
trying as she might
to clear the glitter from her pores.
But underneath,
she hasn't seen.
A long time ago,
once upon a time,
it may have been that
she was there.
She peels and shlufs,
but never any closer does she get
to that person she once knew,
covered in a mask
that has become her skin
she has no task
and no sin.
